Dance of the Bubonic Plague metal print by Ruth Hooper.   Bring your artwork to life with the stylish lines and added depth of a metal print. Artist's Description

The European Danse Macabre dates to the Late Middle Ages. This version pays homage to the French printer Guy Marchant, who published a series of woodcuts on the theme in 1485 and 1486. (These were based on a 1424 mural in a Paris cemetery.) Here the Queen and the Witch reluctantly join in the dance under the evil omen of an eclipse.

Texas born and raised, daughter of informally trained artists and craftspeople, I draw inspiration from folk traditions, especially from the arts of the Mexican Dias de los Muertos, the European Danse Macabre, the Haitian Vodou banner, and the Colonial American needleworker. The paintings and papercuts of my DANZA MACABRA dramatize the reality of death as a part of life that we must embrace if we are to live with our whole hearts. They propose an attitude of radical acceptance--with gusto. Each piece centers on a dance, modern or traditional. Some are papercuts; most are paintings in acrylic on canvas.
