The Mothers and Grandmothers of the Plaza de Mayo began their decades-long demonstration in front of the presidential palace of Argentina in 1977. They courageously demanded the return of the sons, daughters, and grandchildren who were "disappeared" during the Dirty War waged by the military dictatorship that ruled from 1976 to 1983.

Texas born and raised, daughter of informally trained artists and craftspeople, I draw inspiration from folk traditions, especially from the arts of the Mexican Dias de los Muertos, the European Danse Macabre, the Haitian Vodou banner, and the Colonial American needleworker. The paintings and papercuts of my DANZA MACABRA dramatize the reality of death as a part of life that we must embrace if we are to live with our whole hearts. They propose an attitude of radical acceptance--with gusto. Each piece centers on a dance, modern or traditional. Some are papercuts; most are paintings in acrylic on canvas.
